So the product that the beauty world had been waiting for was finally released last weekend.. yes Benefit They're Real Push-up Liner. With how amazing Benefit They're Real Mascara is, the push-up liner had to be equally as amazing.. right?! Erm well...
'It’s the FIRST EVER lash-hugging gel liner in a pen! This matte black gel formula won’t smudge, budge or dry out, and the innovative soft AccuFlex™ Tip hugs your lashline from corner to corner. The closer the line, the bigger the eye!' is what Benefits website states. They also go on to tell us that..
•91% said it was longwearing,
• 81% said it was waterproof
• 88% said it hugged the lashline
• 84% said eyes looked visibly larger
Benefit They're Real Push-up Liner is designed to make our life EASIER, apparently it's a 'crime' that it's so easy... If you have never got on with applying any form of eye liner this is the product you NEED in your life.. apparently!
Well for starters you may have seen a review I posted on JustJulie a little while back of the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner Pen Maybellines gel pen actually has virtually the SAME flexible tip as Benefits push-up liner, the gel comes out in exactly the SAME way, so the claim on this being the FIRST EVER lash hugging gel liner pen isn't true, because Maybelline has had theirs out for a few months. Quick note, I disliked Maybellines Lasting Drama Pen.
Benefit They're Real Push-up Liner is supposed to be criminally easy to apply also, well it took me 15 minutes to actually get both my eyes even and looking the same. I'm not saying I'm an expert BUT eyeliner is my kind of thing. I wear a cat eye flick every single day and have been doing so for years, I also worked as a makeup artist for 8 years, applying eyeliner not just to myself, but to others too and since leaving working in makeup five years ago I still do peoples makeup, so I'm no newbie to the gel/liquid liner application and generally it takes me less than 5 minutes to have both my eyes looking pretty much perfect, you can take a look at my makeup looks if you doubt me. The problem I had was that I just couldn't get both eyes looking the same and then would have to go back over the other eye to match it up.
The end result was really nice, but man did that take me some effort to do and believe me I haven't got that sort of time in the morning!
Another issue I had is how drying this is. The formula is beyond dry, I really don't like that, as you don't get much time to play about with the liner. A BIG issue for me and the reason why I have returned this and obtained a refund... is that during the day the gel liner started to flake away.. yes it flaked! I had little black specks under my eyes and then when I looked closely I could see that the liner had crumbled off my eye! This has never in my whole years of wearing eyeliner EVER happened to me! I have used to the cheapest of brands and they have never crumbled off! As the day went on it just got worse.
I must apologise about the awful lighting here but it was the evening, I just needed to take a picture of where the gel had crumbled off. As you can see it wasn't just a little bit it was a lot! No my eyes had not watered either! I never take anything back and ask for my money but I expect a product to not crumble like this, especially when it cost £18!
Having worked in the beauty industry for so many years, I actually have a fair few friends who work for Benefit, turns out they aren't too keen on this either and aren't enjoying selling this at all. I posted this on twitter and turns out, a few other people aren't too keen on this either... so it can't just be me!
I really hate writing bad reviews, I debated whether to write this or not, but when a product is so hyped up as this and the results are pretty poor, I just felt it would be good for people to see a non 'OMG this is amazing' post. It's a shame as I adore Benefit products. The Mascara is AMAZING, just wish this was too!
On a side note, I got two samples of the makeup remover... now that's bloody good!
Anyone else tried this and experienced similar?
