NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
When I went to IMATS back in June, I picked up a years supply of makeup. One of the counters I was most excited about visiting was the NARS stand. I picked up several bits but my best buy was a set of three NARS Velvet Lip Pencils for just £15! Yes £15 for three full size products that would cost you £18 for just one!

There was two different sets on offer but I gravitated towards this set as I knew I'd use all three colours. The colours I got were, Sex machine, which is a gorgeous dusky pink with a lilac undertone. Damned which is a gorgeous Plum colour and Marina which is a brown colour with a red undertone. Annoyingly none of these shades seem to be available on NARS website anymore, so I'm guessing they're all discontinued. Having said that, these are beauties, so I'm very lucky to have picked these up when I could.

Over this past year I have grown to love a matte lip colour and my collection of matte lipsticks is forever growing. These however feel different to any other matte lip product that I own. Their name gives it away, Velvet Matte, the velvet says it all. These apply so beautifully to my lips, like velvet, yet they dry to a matte finish, but not a dry looking matte, yes you guessed it, a velvet looking matte. They still seem to keep a slight sheen to my lips all while still looking matte! I'm making no sense here, but I'm hopeful you'll get what I mean.

These also aren't drying on my lips, which is something I do tend to suffer with, especially as we move out of one season on to the next. I'm not saying these will moisturise your lips, but they won't make your lips dry out, which is why I know a lot of people steer clear of matte lip products.

I really love that they come in a pencil packaging too, as these are the right size to carry around with you and there's something about using a lip pencil for your lipstick that just makes it a whole lot easier when you're out an about!

Now the pigmentation of each of these are very opaque. The colour you swatch on your hand, is the colour that you'll get on your lips too, so I love how the swatches are very true to life, which a lot of lipsticks tend not to be which can be very infuriating at times! Staying power is good too, I'd say I got a good 6 hours wear from these, even after eating and drinking, the colour still hadn't faded away much, which pleasantly surprised me the first time I wore one of these.

My favourite colour out of these has to be Damned. It's just gorgeous and really transforms any makeup look that I'm wearing, If I want to go bold during the day I can, but damn this is the perfect colour to wear on a night out. Sex Machine (you gotta love NARS names right?!) is the perfect day time colour. It's neutral enough to not have to worry that you look a little bit too done up during the day, but it's bold enough to still make a statement with your lips. Marina, is the colour I tend to wear less. I'm not really into lip colours that are brown, however I do like this and reckon I'll get more wear from it during the Autumn season.

I love the Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. I think they're near perfect, so plan to pick up a few more shades in the near future, I just wish I had picked up a few more colours when I was at IMATS now!

Do you own any of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils? What are your favourite matte lip products?
